⭐ Mathematics

In addition to fostering analytical reasoning and problem-solving ability which employers value, the study of mathematics opens a wide variety of career doors.

After Graduation

Over the past few years, math majors from PC have entered a variety of fields. Some have entered graduate school to do graduate work in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, and civil engineering.

Recent graduates have completed master and doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ohio State University, Arizona State University, Clemson University, the College of Charleston, Georgia State University, and Wake Forest University.

Several graduates have taken jobs teaching in public schools, while others have chosen careers in business, government, or industry, including such areas as accounting and environmental research.

About the Psychology Program

Whether you choose to be a psychology major or just take a few classes, you will find the psychology courses at Presbyterian College offer exciting activities and experiential learning ranging from observing people’s behavior to dissecting a brain to collecting and analyzing data as part of a psychology research project.

The psychology major at Presbyterian College provides students with knowledge and skills useful for many career options or graduate studies. Through the psychology major, students gain insight into the major sub-fields of psychology and develop valuable skills including technical and scientific writing, data analysis, and speaking/presenting. In addition, students gain an understanding of human behavior and interaction.

⭐ Sociology

Classes in PC’s sociology department will challenge you to increase your awareness of the complexities of different societies. The curriculum is designed to stimulate your intellectual growth and prepare you to participate in the local, national, and world communities.

About the Sociology Program

Sociology examines the forces that shape your life at both the broad societal level and the level of daily interactions. It addresses a variety of intellectual as well as policy- related issues and concerns, such as socioeconomic and demographic change, social institution (such as law, medicine, education, the family, politics, the professions), and the structure of social inequality.

Some of our graduates work in social research positions in government and industry, while others have taken jobs in the fields of business, personnel management, teaching, and journalism. Some even continue their education and become lawyers, ministers, social service agency administrators, or even sociology professors. Students may choose courses to pursue various interests such as social/human services, global studies/international issues, administrative or criminal justice, or graduate studies.

PC offers programs of study leading to teacher certification in many specialty areas—from early childhood, elementary, and middle school to secondary mathematics, English, social studies, and biology.

⭐ Political Science

We are a diverse and active department that encourages students to – not only study politics and government – but also to engage it. Our courses offer students an opportunity to develop skills to become more engaged citizens and to be successful in their professions. With these experiences, our students go on to a variety of careers, including law, government service, political advocacy and education, among others.

About the Political Science Program

Do the events in Washington D.C. ignite your interest? Do you want to make a difference in civil rights, the environment, and healthcare? If you said yes, then the political science major may be the right major for you.

You’ll engage in politics and government when you major in political science at PC. During classes, you and your fellow students participate in discussions, simulate court trials and presidential debates. You’ll practice speech writing and research specific political science-related topics that you want to know more about. You’ll have opportunities to learn outside the classroom too, like interning on Capitol Hill.

The degree prepares you for a wide range of careers, from business and journalism to law. And political science, like any liberals arts major at PC, helps you improve critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills that all employers are looking for.

⭐ Pre-Law

Preparation for law school is a demanding and continuous process for many students. The Pre-law Program at PC aims to educate and advise our students – both inside and outside of the classroom – about law school and the practice of law and enable them to develop the skills necessary to be successful as law school applicants, students, and graduates.

Admission to law school does not require any specific course of study. Departments offering programs developed as prelaw training are: economics and business administration, English, history, and political science.
